Need Help Staying Cool in NYC? Find a Cooling Center

If your home feels too hot, a NYC cooling center may help.

Cooling centers are air-conditioned places where people can get relief during very hot weather. They may open in places like libraries, community centers, senior centers, and some NYCHA spaces. You can find open locations through the Cool Options Map or by calling 311.

Try to spend time in an air-conditioned place when temperatures get very high. This is especially important for older adults, babies and young children, and people with health conditions like heart disease or diabetes. NYC Health says a heat index above 95°F is especially dangerous.

Heat illness can be serious. New York City Emergency Management says you should call 911 right away if someone has signs of heat stroke, such as a very high body temperature, confusion, dizziness, or passing out.
