If you get a heat pump through EmPower+, there may be extra help with your electric bill.
New York’s Energy Affordability Guarantee Pilot is for some low-income households that electrify their home through EmPower+. The program is meant to help participants pay no more than 6% of household income for electricity. If electricity costs go above that level, the help comes as a bill credit.
This program is not for everyone. It is for households in 1- to 4-family homes that go through EmPower+ and switch both home heating and hot water to heat pump systems. EmPower+ is for income-eligible homeowners and renters, and some households may qualify if their income is below current limits or if they already take part in a utility payment assistance program.
The pilot’s first phase has a goal of 1,000 households. State officials extended enrollment until early 2027, unless that goal is reached first. Households are referred by NYSERDA to apply to the pilot after an eligible EmPower+ project is completed.
