If you own your home, rooftop solar may be one option. New York’s NY-Sun program still offers incentives for home solar through approved contractors, and NYSERDA financing may also be available to help lower upfront costs.
The Bronx and Brooklyn Energy Hub is also working with Barrio Solar, a rooftop solar lease program for some low- and moderate-income homeowners in Brooklyn. The program has no upfront costs and targets about 20% savings on monthly energy bills for eligible households.
Community Solar for Renters and Homeowners
If you do not own your home, community solar may be a better fit. With community solar, you do not install panels where you live. Instead, you receive bill credits tied to a shared solar project. NYSERDA’s community solar can help renters and homeowners save money on electricity with no upfront cost.
